Grundfos takes part in World Future Energy Summit 2019

Leading global pump manufacturer, Grundfos, underlined the importance of agricultural solar pumping systems in ensuring sustainability and security of food supplies for the so-called ‘sunshine’ and developing countries, when it addressed leading representatives of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Forum Abu Dhabi during WFES 2019 event.

A high-level audience of around 100, including ISA country ministerial representatives, the Director Generals of both the International Solar Alliance and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the UAE’s French Ambassador and the Secretary of India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, joined a panel discussion on 14th of January to review solar water pumping and its potential within the region’s critical agricultural sector.

Invited by ISA to moderate the session, which took place during WFES 2019, Kim Jensen, Regional Managing Director of Grundfos’ Asia Pacific Region, explained how ISA’s work in aggregating demand from member states has driven down the cost of solar by as much as 70%, making this the cheapest and most efficient form of energy for farmers, and a key tool in building sustainability across the food production sector.

Covering a range of topics from improved water efficiency to capacity building, employment generation and the role of power companies and financial institutions in aggregating demand and reducing the costs of solar power, the panel looked at the success of Solar Water Pumping Systems in India, and how the experience and models developed could be extended to other ISA countries.

“The solar revolution is here”, said Kim Jensen,” but the relationship between water, food and energy is very complex and requires an integrated approach. As pioneers in solar pumping, Grundfos understands the technology and its associated benefits for society and has developed this into a new generation of highly efficient pumping systems that address the need for energy saving and optimum water management.

“It has been a great honour to be invited to moderate this Forum and contribute towards an initiative that will make a real difference for millions of people in countries across the globe. Sustainability is a core value for Grundfos, and we welcome the opportunity to work with ISA in their mission to bring solar-powered pumping systems to farmers around the world.”, he concluded.

Following the Forum, Grundfos technical experts had one-to-one discussions with ISA representatives to discuss how the company could provide solar-based solutions for different ISA projects around the globe.
